Inner Work
The 50/50 Covenant — and why it changes everything
May 2026 · 6 min read
When someone arrives in my practice for the first time, I tell them, almost immediately: I do half. You do half. That is the only way this works.
It sounds severe. It is, in fact, the most generous thing I know how to say.
Most of us, by the time we reach for a healer, are tired. We have tried. We have read. We have white-knuckled. We come, secretly, hoping someone will finally lift it off our shoulders. I cannot. No one can. The shoulders are yours, and the carrying is yours, and the freedom — when it comes — will be yours too.
What I can do is hold the lantern. I can name what I see. I can keep the field steady when yours is shaking. I can teach you how to listen to your own intelligence. I can sit, without flinching, with the parts of you that have never been allowed to speak.
But the willingness — that is the half I cannot do for you. And it is, by far, the more important half.
When you walk in with your half ready, the work is fast. It is sometimes shockingly fast. Patterns that have lived in your line for generations move in a single afternoon, because you finally said: I am willing.
When you walk in waiting to be saved, no one can help you. Not me, not your therapist, not your priest, not the next book.
So this is the covenant. I show up entirely. You show up entirely. We meet in the middle, and the work — the real, non-negotiable, sometimes painful, often beautiful work — happens there.
Until next time, stay authentic.
